Después de instalar Ubuntu, todos nos topamos con el problema de que no podemos reproducir archivos multimedia, es decir que no podemos escuchar nuestros queridos MP3s, ni ver DVDs, etc. El día de hoy les enseñare una forma de fácil de instalar todos los codecs multimedia que necesitan en Ubuntu.
Por si alguien se pregunta a que se debe que Ubuntu no trae estos archivos por defecto, el motivo es simple: El CopyRight, patentes y las cuestiones legales. Recuerden que estos codecs no son libres y quien los instala lo hace aceptando los contratos de licencia previos.
Empezando la instalación:
Método largo
Abre un Terminal (Aplicaciones->Accesorios->Terminal) y escribe lo siguiente:
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
Ahora al final del documento agrega las siguientes lineas:
## Medibuntu - Ubuntu 8.04 "hardy"
## Please report any bug on https://bugs.launchpad.net/medibuntu/
deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ hardy free non-free
Guarda el documento. Nuevamente en el terminal escribe:
wget -q http://packages.medibuntu.org/medibuntu-key.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add - && sudo apt-get update
Ahora actualizamos:
sudo apt-get update
Ahora instalamos los siguientes paquetes:
sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg libxine1-ffmpeg libdvdread3
Cuando los paquetes se hayan terminado de instalar escribimos:
sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2
Al momento de terminar la instalación del paquete anterior escribimos lo siguiente:
sudo apt-get install w32codecs
Por ultimo instalamos el siguiente paquete:
sudo apt-get install ffmpeg
Con esto ya tendrás listo Ubuntu para reproducir lo que quieras.
Método corto:
La verdad es algo muy corto. Lo primero es ir Sistema->Administración->Orígenes del Software. Ya estando aquí activados los Repositorios Universe y Multiverse. Despues de esto abrimos un terminal y escribimos:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
Con esto ya habremos logrado todo lo hecho en el método largo. 😉
PD: El primer método es el que a mi me ha funcionado, si existe algún paquete que falte o algo que no funcione bien puedes dejar un comentario. Quizás también tu puedas ayudarme a entender las diferencias en los resultados de seguir el primer método de instalación o el segundo. Saludos!!

Buscar: Ubuntu Restricted extras, marcar, aplicar y esperar la instalación. Me gusta mas es mas gráfico siempre trato de evitar la consola.

Si ya instalaste los codecs que menciono en este articulo, creo que solo te falta instalar un reproductor, ya que supuestamente con los codecs para Gstreamer puedes reproducir ese tipo de archivos. Puedes instalar Mplayer o VLC. Para hacerlo desde un terminal solo escribe:
sudo apt-get install mplayersudo apt-get install vlc
Espero que con esto puedas solucionar el problema.

gxine
mplayer
rhythmbox
totem
y con ninguno abre
puede ser que me falte un codec

Pues parece un error muy extraño, ya que si seguiste este tutorial no deberías de tener problemas. Supuestamente las librerías Gstreamer le dan soporte a esa extensión. Lamento no poder ayudarte más.
Creo que he jodido algo, porque después de emplear el método corto he vuelto a abrir el synaptic y me ha dado un mensaje que no me gusta nada:
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run ‘dpkg –configure -a’ to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

Por lo demás, la verdad es que no sé si me he enterado de la historia. Tras acabar la instalación aparece un mensaje kilométrico de la licencia que al final hay que aceptar, pero no tengo ni idea de cómo se hace.
Bien, ya sé que se debió a que no finalicé correctamente la actualización en consola. Lo he hecho luego a través de synaptic. Pero sigo sin poder ver nada en MPlayer. Sí se reproduce, pero unas veces sin sonido, otras veces a pantallazos, otras sin pantalla grande… he intentado elegir las diferentes opciones en «Preferences» – «Video», pero tampoco. Gracias por anticipado.

Creo que es un problema que ambos tenemos amigo… Resulta que según he leido por alli, el problema podría ser el controlador de Audio que utilizamos en Ubuntu (Pulse Audio) ya que es una nueva implementación la que estamos utilizando. Honestamente en esto no te puedo ayudar porque no se aún en concreto a que se deba el problema.
Hace pocos dias he instalado FrostWire y a pesar de descargar todos los archivos que he querido no he podido ver u oir nada.
He utilizado los tres metodos aconsejados aqui y tampoco ha pasado nada.

Mira como le comentaba a Bon Bonobo, quiza el problema este ya en Ubuntu porque por ejemplo yo estoy escuchando musica y de repende deja de funcionar el audio. Ya desinstale pulse Audio, instale otros controladores pero nada.

tengo un problema , lo que me sucede es que no se como instalar el flash player , quiero ver los videos de youtube , pero en el sitio oficial de flash, cuando quiero bajarlo para el ubuntu 8.04 ( que es la version que tengo ) me marka un error en la pagina y no puedo bajarlo , alguien me pudiera ayudar con ese problema , tengo apenas 3 dias usando el Ubuntu.
ve a agregar y quitar programas en aplicaciones, y busca todos los que tengan que ver con firefox o mozzilla ahi se actualiza tu navegador si es firefox, luego en buscar gstreamer e instalalos buena suerte

Mira te voy a ser muy sincero: Ese es uno de los principales problemas de Ubuntu, que depende mucho de internet. De que si puedes acceder a los paquetes y descargarlos desde un Ciber, si puedes, pero es un poco complicado.

la verdad no se mucho de computadoras y mi papá se le ocurrio la grandiosa idea de ponerle ubuntu a mi compu ahora que quiero escuchar musica o ver videos de youtube me sale que debo de instalarles los plugins faltantes y cuando se vlos quiero insatalar aparte de pedirme la contraseña me sale un mensaje de que tengo un problema con el sudo. para empezar no se que sea eso quise ponerle el primer metodo, pero como repito no se nada de computadoras no se como guardar o como ejecutar las terminales, se que esta en español pero para mi que tengo 13 años es como me lo pusieran en chino. perdonenme pero no se que hacer. hasta mi profe de compu me mando a volar por que no el sabe que onda con ubuntu.
